PRP for Hair Loss – Before & After Your Session

A patient advice sheet — 8 practical points. Reviewed and updated by Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed, July 2026.

The advice

  1. PRP: a sample of your blood is drawn, the concentrated platelets are separated and injected into the scalp to stimulate follicles — a complement to, not a replacement for, your medicines (like minoxidil).
  2. Before: hydrate well and eat a normal meal (do not come fasting), wash your hair that morning, and no dyes or sprays that day.
  3. 3–5 days before: stop aspirin, ibuprofen, omega and vitamin E if medically allowed — to reduce bruising; tell us about blood thinners or blood disorders.
  4. After: scalp tightness, mild soreness and slight swelling for hours up to a day is normal; small bruises may appear.
  5. Do not wash your hair until the next morning, and avoid dyes and chemical treatments for 3 days.
  6. Avoid strenuous exercise, sauna and direct sun on the scalp for 24 hours.
  7. Avoid anti-inflammatory painkillers (ibuprofen and similar) for 48 hours after if possible — the mild inflammation is part of how PRP works; paracetamol is fine for pain.
  8. Usual program: one session monthly for 3–4 months, then boosters every 3–6 months; judge results at 3–6 months (shedding drops first, then density improves).
