“Tanning” is a temporary colour — the price is skin damage and skin cancer

In a report gathering several dermatologists on the harms of tanning, Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed explained that in Kuwait’s climate sunscreen has become a medical necessity rather than a cosmetic product or a personal choice: broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher, applied 15–20 minutes before exposure, even on cloudy days and while driving, together with hats and sunglasses. He also corrected the belief that darker skin does not need sun protection.

To control rosacea, avoid hot spicy food and caffeine

When does facial redness stop being “sensitive skin” and become a chronic skin disease? Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed, consultant in dermatology and non-surgical aesthetics, explains the three drivers of rosacea (immune dysregulation, vascular over-reactivity and micro-organisms such as the Demodex mite), how it differs from seborrhoeic eczema, and a subtype-based treatment plan: vasoconstrictor creams such as brimonidine, ivermectin for papules and pustules, vascular laser for fixed capillaries, daily sun protection and trigger avoidance — with a warning against cortisone creams without medical supervision.

7 effective tips for healthier, thicker hair

Hair loss is one of the commonest complaints in dermatology clinics, and correct treatment starts with reading the “pattern of loss”, says Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed, consultant dermatologist and venereologist at Kuwait Hospital: DHT-related hereditary hair loss, telogen effluvium after childbirth, illness or stress, alopecia areata, iron and vitamin D deficiency, and scalp disease — each with its own treatment (from minoxidil and PRP to correcting nutritional and hormonal deficits) — plus seven practical tips for thicker hair.

For people with diabetes: caring for the skin and the feet

The skin and the sense of touch are an honest mirror of a diabetic patient’s health: skin changes on the feet are often the first sign of peripheral neuropathy or failing small vessels. Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed stresses that careful skin and foot care is “neither a luxury nor a cosmetic choice” but a medical necessity that saves limbs — combining tight glucose control, a daily check of skin and feet, and treatment at the first change.

Al Qabas newspaper — “Black henna” can cause allergy and breathing difficulty
Al Qabas newspaper27 April 2023

“Black henna” can cause allergy and breathing difficulty

Natural henna stains brown or orange, never black; “black henna” usually contains PPD, a chemical hair-dye ingredient approved for hair only, not skin, and can trigger severe allergy and skin reactions — in some cases breathing difficulty. Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed’s warning for those using it at Eid and celebrations, with seven precautions and natural red henna as the safe alternative.

Dr Abdulaziz Al Rashed: Providing top-notch skincare

An English-language piece in a UAE daily in which Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed explains why he chose dermatology — a specialty where improvement is visible and relief can be immediate — and the value of hands-on clinical diagnosis; he notes that acne is the most common condition and that persistence despite twelve weeks of over-the-counter treatment warrants a specialist, and outlines laser and injectable services.

Al Qabas newspaper29 March 2022

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune, non-contagious disease — and common in Kuwait

Alopecia areata occurs when the immune system attacks the hair follicles; it is common in Kuwait and the Gulf and is not contagious — unlike fungal tinea capitis, which spreads through shared combs and accessories. Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed explains its types (patchy, totalis, universalis) and treatment options, and calls for awareness so that people with the condition face less bullying and avoidance.

Heatstroke can be fatal if not treated early

Short sun exposure has its benefits, but long exposure — or exposure at peak hours — can cause serious conditions: sunburn, treated like any burn; sun allergy, common in young women; and heatstroke, which can be fatal if not treated early. Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed explains the signs of each and how to prevent them — keeping the skin moisturised, daily sunscreen, and avoiding direct sun at peak times.

Stress and anxiety behind the recent rise in skin disease

During the COVID-19 pandemic dermatology clinics closed for three months with only emergency cover, and acute cases and avoidable complications rose. Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed explains the link between skin and mind: stress, anxiety and lockdown worsened several skin diseases, while contagious skin conditions spread through close contact and delayed treatment.

“Sunscreen is essential for everyone”

Ramadan skin advice: dryness is the fasting person’s biggest skin problem, applying a cream or moisturiser does not break the fast, and any fragrance-free moisturiser works regardless of price. Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed stressed that the habit of daily SPF 50 from childhood, at every age, protects against pigmentation, premature wrinkles and skin cancer, warned against solarium tanning beds, and gave guidance on peels and isotretinoin during the month.
