The advice

  1. Dryness is the most common side effect: apply lip balm several times daily, moisturize face and body, use lubricating eye drops, and Vaseline inside the nose for dryness or nosebleeds.
  2. Use sunscreen daily — the drug makes your skin more sun-sensitive.
  3. For married women: pregnancy is absolutely forbidden during treatment and for one full month after the last dose; use two contraception methods together, with monthly pregnancy tests.
  4. Do not donate blood during treatment and for one month after stopping.
  5. Blood tests (liver enzymes & lipids): before starting, then after about 2 months at a stable dose, as directed — current guidelines no longer require monthly testing for most patients.
  6. Limit fast food, fried food and red meat — the drug can raise triglycerides.
  7. Avoid waxing, laser hair removal, chemical peels and cosmetic procedures during treatment and for 6 months after, unless approved by your doctor.
  8. Do not take vitamin A supplements; report any unusual mood change immediately.
  9. Treatment usually lasts 4–6 months depending on severity and response.
