Dermal Filler Aftercare

A patient advice sheet — 8 practical points. Reviewed and updated by Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed, July 2026.

The advice

  1. Mild swelling, bruising and redness at injection points is normal and settles within days; gentle cool compresses help on day one.
  2. Avoid touching, massaging or pressing the area for 24–48 hours unless your doctor instructed otherwise, and sleep on your back the first night after facial filler.
  3. No make-up over the injection points for 24 hours, and no strenuous exercise, sauna, steam or high heat for 48 hours.
  4. Minimise blood-thinning painkillers (aspirin, ibuprofen) and alcohol for a day before and after if possible, to reduce bruising — paracetamol is fine.
  5. Postpone laser, peels and elective dental work for two weeks after filler.
  6. Judge the final result after two weeks, once swelling settles; small lumps you can feel in the first days are usually temporary.
  7. Warning signs — call us immediately: severe increasing pain, pale/bluish or mottled skin, a cold area, ulceration — and any change in vision = emergency at once.
  8. Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with a special enzyme if ever needed — never hesitate to come back with any concern.
