The advice

  1. Sunburn-like redness, mild swelling and pinpoint bleeding on the day is normal; redness settles in 24–72 hours, then fine flaking may appear on days 2–4.
  2. First 24 hours: no make-up and no touching the face with unwashed hands; sleep on your back on a clean pillowcase.
  3. Wash with a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water and use a plain fragrance-free moisturizer; stop all actives (retinoids, exfoliating acids, vitamin C, scrubs) for 5–7 days.
  4. SPF 50+ from the next morning, and avoid direct sun, sauna, pools and sweaty exercise for 48 hours.
  5. Do not pick the crusts or flaking skin — let it come off on its own.
  6. If you have a history of cold sores, tell us before the session — a preventive antiviral may be prescribed.
  7. Results build with collagen over 4–6 weeks; the usual program is 3–6 sessions, 4–6 weeks apart.
  8. Contact us for: increasing pain, blisters or pus, or a spreading rash.
