Laser Hair Removal – Before & After Your Session

A patient advice sheet — 9 practical points. Reviewed and updated by Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed, July 2026.

The advice

  1. Before: shave the area 12–24 hours before your session (shaving only) — no waxing, plucking, tweezing or threading for 4 weeks before; the laser targets the hair root.
  2. Avoid tanning and intense sun for two weeks before, and stop exfoliants and retinoid creams on the area one week before.
  3. Come with clean skin on the day: no perfumes, deodorant or creams on the area, and tell us about any new medicines or pregnancy.
  4. After: mild redness and swelling around the follicles is normal for hours up to two days; cool compresses and a gentle moisturizer are enough.
  5. Avoid hot baths, sauna, strenuous exercise and pools for 24–48 hours, and perfumes/deodorant on the treated area for 24 hours.
  6. Daily sunscreen on exposed areas and no direct sun for two weeks — to prevent pigmentation, especially in darker skin.
  7. Treated hairs shedding over 1–3 weeks is normal (looks like growth then falls out) — do not pluck them; shaving between sessions is fine.
  8. Results usually need 6–8 sessions at 4–8 week intervals depending on the area, with maintenance sessions later.
  9. Contact us if blisters, burns or clear colour change appear after a session.
