The advice

  1. Botox is a quick, safe and effective procedure that relaxes expression muscles to smooth frown lines, forehead lines and crow's feet.
  2. Before: a numbing cream is applied to the treated areas for 15–20 minutes.
  3. During: a few tiny injections over a few minutes, with mild temporary discomfort.
  4. After: return to normal activities immediately, but stay upright (no lying down) for 4 hours.
  5. Avoid rubbing or massaging the area and strenuous exercise for 24 h, and sauna/steam for 48 h.
  6. Minor bruising may appear at injection sites and clears within days.
  7. The effect starts within 3–5 days and is complete by about 2 weeks.
  8. Results last 3–4 months on average (up to 6); repeat when muscle movement returns.
  9. Preventive Botox may start in the late 20s – early 30s. Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
