Advice for Rosacea Patients

A patient advice sheet — 7 practical points. Reviewed and updated by Dr. Abdulaziz AlRashed, July 2026.

The advice

  1. Use sunscreen daily (SPF 30+), preferably mineral (zinc/titanium) formulas suited to sensitive skin — sun is the top trigger.
  2. Skincare: gentle fragrance-free cleanser with lukewarm water; avoid scrubs, exfoliants and products containing alcohol or menthol.
  3. Avoid triggers: spicy foods, hot drinks, hot baths and sauna, intense exercise, hot weather, and stress.
  4. Triggers differ between patients — note what precedes your flushing to learn and avoid your personal triggers.
  5. After exercise or heat exposure: cool down (AC, fan, a cold drink, cool compresses).
  6. Never use cortisone creams on the face without a prescription — they worsen rosacea over time.
  7. Effective treatments exist (creams, tablets, laser for redness and visible vessels) — stick to the plan; results take several weeks.
